Behind every sculpture are long hours in the studio, hundreds of welded parts — and one person who sees in scrap what others don't.
My name is Yair Dor, and I'm a metal artist. I take machine parts, bolts, springs, chains and scrap that nobody needs anymore — and build sculptures from them that get a new life.
My work explores the meeting point of form, material and texture, in a constant dialogue between the abstract and the tangible.
Over the years I have exhibited my works in many exhibitions in the United States and at other art venues. Each piece carries a unique story, a soul and a personal view of the world, and invites the viewer to take part in the visual experience.
“Every piece of metal has already lived a full life. My job is to give it another one.”
Every piece goes through four stages — sometimes weeks of work — until it is ready to leave the studio.
Searching for machine, car and metal parts with character — each part chosen for its shape.
Building a steel frame that carries the sculpture and defines its movement and proportions.
Hundreds of parts welded one by one to create muscles, skin, armor and detail.
Grinding, painting and patina in copper, steel and silver tones that bring out the shine.
